Develop and implement Continuous Improvement Initiatives (CI) where applicable and opportunity exists to demonstrate added value.
Develop and manage TCs for all mining product lines.Key Objectives:
- To provide technical support to Group Service Operations, on site mining contracts and customers.
- To be the liaison between Company support operations and Caterpillar for all Mining Product Problems and Technical Issue's.
- Travel regularly to the Company mine sites as needed to represent the business and ensure all issues are effectively and accurately communicated and new Caterpillar initiatives are understood.
- Produce and distribute a monthly top ten product problem report to senior management.
- Actively partake in training to assist in your own and the businesses development.
- Ensure priority is given to safe work practices and customer site safety policies are adhered to during visits.
- Working with Caterpillar and /Company management in developing the Company version of Caterpillar's MDOF program. Monitor and report on progress regularly updating detailed reports.
- Acts as the point of contact between business unit staff and supervisors, who have any type of unresolved technical questions. Tries to resolve questions using Caterpillar Service information System (SIS), Caterpillar web sites and all literature to hand.
- Provides detailed documented description of failures and failure analysis.
- In cases where questions cannot be resolved, gather's all required information from the business units and creates a DSN Entry, ensuring the business unit is kept updated.
- When applicable collate and submit Caterpillar incident reports through the DSN.
- The timely reporting and resolution of product problems is an important element in the success of this role and in ensuring internal and external customer satisfaction. You will have a high level of focus on Quality assurance.
- Assist business units with warranty and goodwill negotiations related to the management of product problems.
- Monitor SIMSi submission and follow up with Business Unit personnel where applicable.
- Provides factory passwords from the Caterpillar web site or Dealer Solution Network (DSN) for use with Electronic Technician (ET).
- Identify Continuous Improvement initiatives which will add recognisable and measurable value to the customer and Company operations.
- Assist in rolling out CI (Continuous improvement) projects.
- Documenting the success of the projects and present the results.
- Liaises with Caterpillar and other suppliers on all support and development programs / rework programs.
- Identifies what reworks need to be carried out.
- Identify tooling and materials to carry out rework.
- Coordinates with site staff to ensure reworks are carried out.
- If required travels to site and teach local staff to carry out modifications.
- Provide training to business unit staff on technical documentation using. the best practice for product problem reporting.
- Assist dealership training department with technical support.
- Attends specific new product and system training courses.
- Implements systems in service departments and on customer sites.
- Advises local territory service departments of new systems etc.
- Locates and prices new tooling and equipment.
- Participate in training course to further individual and businesses development.
- Induct new staff to the TC role.
- Train new staff on all systems and processes within Company and Caterpillar.
- Mentor new staff in how to deal with both technical issues and the relationship between BU and COE to obtain the best results for the Customer and the enterprise.
- Supervise subordinate staff according to Company standards.
- Minimum of 10 years' experience in Company Service. Both Hands on and previous TC role.
- Long term employee who has hands on field service and component rebuild experience.
- Has previous experience of supervision.
- Has previous experience of Technical communication work.
- Ability to read Caterpillar electrical and hydraulic schematics, understand Caterpillar Service manuals and parts books.
- Hands on troubleshooting and repair Knowledge of machine systems used on most common mining machines.
- Communication.
- PC literate, MS office.
- Technical understanding of vehicle electrics, mobile hydraulics, transmission systems.
- Practical hands on ability.
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management and customers at all levels.
- Electrical and hydraulic system bias.
- Ability to work alongside engineers in the field in a team.
- Attendance at Caterpillar technical courses covering mining product.
- Certificate copies.
- Certificated membership.
- Must demonstrate self-motivation and personal drive. Passion and interest in the job.
