Job DescriptionThe Fleet Reliability Specialist (Mining Equipment) is responsible for improving the performance, reliability, and up time of Caterpillar mining equipment across key mine sites in Tanzania.The role serves as the business unit focal point for equipment availability by translating operational data into actionable insights, leading performance improvement initiatives, and aligning internal and external stakeholders to enhance fleet efficiency, reduce downtime, and optimise customer satisfaction.Key Objectives:
  • Improve equipment physical availability and up time across assigned mining fleets and sites.
  • Identify, analyse, and eliminate key downtime drivers (technical, operational, logistical, procedural).
  • Lead and influence internal teams, OEM (Caterpillar), and customers to implement performance improvements.
  • Drive strategic reliability and performance improvement projects using data insights.
  • Protect commercial interests through risk identification, mitigation, and recovery strategies.
Key Accountabilities:Performance & Analysis:
  • Analyse fleet performance data to identify trends, gaps, and root causes of low availability.
  • Monitor key KPIs including:
  • Physical Availability.
  • Mean Time Between Stoppages (MTBS).
  • Mean Time to Repair (MTTR).
  • Top downtime drivers.
Project & Stakeholder Management:
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to improve fleet performance and reduce downtime.
  • Coordinate between Company, Caterpillar, and customer teams.
  • Facilitate performance review meetings, workshops, and alignment sessions.
Technical Advisory & Improvement:
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for major downtime events.
  • Advise customers on equipment health, maintenance strategies, and operational best practices.
  • Recommend corrective actions across maintenance, operations, and parts logistics.
Reporting & Governance:
  • Develop and present performance dashboards and reports.
  • Provide regular updates to Mining Leadership.
  • Ensure alignment with business objectives and performance targets.
Reporting Lines & Relationships:Internal:
  • Product Support Centre of Excellence (COE).
  • Product Support Business Unit.
  • Prime Product Sales (Onshore & Offshore).
External:
  • Customers (Mining Operations).
  • Caterpillar.
Work Environment:
  • Indoor: 70%.
  • Outdoor (site visits): 30%.
  • Requires regular engagement at mining sites and operational environments.

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in:
  • Mechanical Engineering.
  • Mining Engineering.
  • Heavy Equipment Engineering.
  • Industrial Engineering.
(Master's degree is an added advantage) * Additional certifications are a plus:
  • Reliability Engineering (e.g., CRE).
  • Maintenance & Asset Management.
  • Project Management (PMP, PRINCE2).
Experience:
  • Minimum 5-8 years' experience in:
  • Mining operations or heavy equipment environment.
  • Fleet maintenance and reliability.
  • Equipment performance analysis.
  • Proven experience in:
  • Data analytic and performance reporting.
  • Leading cross-functional or site-based improvement projects.
  • Working with OEMs or mining contractors.
